Science Committee Minority Leaders Lofgren and Stevens Applaud Biden-Harris Administration National Cybersecurity Strategy
(Washington, DC)—Yesterday, the Biden-Harris Administration released its National Cybersecurity Strategy. The Strategy comes after Committee on Science, Space, and Technology Members advanced support for American cybersecurity efforts through provisions included in the CHIPS and Science Act.
“We are at a critical time in our cybersecurity landscape, and we must do all we can to bolster Americans’ security and resilience and address pressing technology challenges,” said Ranking Member Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) and Research and Technology Subcommittee Ranking Member Haley Stevens (D-MI). “Reinvigorating research and development in cybersecurity, expanding our cyber educational and workforce pathways, and rooting our defenses in risk-based standards will put us in a position to lead in the future. As leaders on the Committee on Science, Space, and Technology we are committed to advancing support for federal efforts to spearhead leadership in this area.
The Members continued, “Just last summer, the President signed into law the CHIPS and Science Act, which was largely made up of provisions that originated in the Science Committee. In the CHIPS and Science Act, we included provisions to expand our cybersecurity workforce, advance cyber R&D, and support the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s work in this area. We applaud the Administration for this forward-thinking strategy, which leverages the generational investments made to develop America’s clean energy sector and build up our technology and manufacturing base. As cyberspace and the threats to it continue to expand, we must get ahead of the threats with innovation at the forefront.”
